There’s a reason we don’t care much about the scale.

Honestly? I don’t trust those damn things.

But more importantly, the number it shows you isn’t telling you the right story. And for women especially, chasing that number can pull your focus away from something far more powerful.

Every 30 days, we encourage our members step onto the InBody scanner. Not to weigh them. To track their skeletal muscle mass. And if you’re a woman over 35, this number might be the single most important predictor of how long (and how well) you live.

The Research That Should Change How You Think About the Gym

Here are the numbers I poured over during coffee this morning.

Researchers tracked over 880,000 people for more than 32 years. What they found was striking: people with the lowest muscle mass had significantly higher mortality rates from heart disease, cancer, and respiratory disease.

A separate analysis of ten long-term studies found that any resistance training at all was linked to a 15% lower risk of early death.

Add cardio to the mix?

That number jumps to 40%.

Not 4%. Forty.

This Isn’t About How You Look

This isn’t about aesthetics.

This isn’t about fitting into old jeans or hitting a number on a scale.

This is about whether your body has the armor it needs to protect you from the biggest threats to your life. And lifting weights just 2–3 times a week can cut that risk nearly in half.

That’s not a fitness goal. That’s a life goal.

What to Actually Do This Week (Keep It Simple)

You don’t need a complicated program. You need consistency with the right movements.

Here’s your action plan that’s simple, clear, doable:

1. Lift weights at least twice this week. That’s the floor. Two sessions. That’s it.

2. Hit the major movement patterns. Squats. Hinges. Pushes. Pulls. Every major muscle group covered. Everything else is a bonus.

3. Add some cardio if you can. Even a little. The data is clear that combining strength with cardio is where the biggest gains in longevity happen.

No overhaul. No perfect plan required. Start where you are.
