Why “More Workouts” Isn’t the Answer and What Women Are Doing Instead

I was listening to a podcast this week with a few female gym owners talking about women’s health and one of them said something that was really interesting.

She said,

“So many women think they just need more workouts when the real answer is different workouts.”

That hit home.

Because I see it all the time here at Shred 27 in Rocklin.

A woman comes in absolutely crushing it. She’s showing up four, five, even six days a week. The effort’s there. The consistency’s there. But then… the progress slows down.

During her goal review, we’ll pull up her InBody scan, and the story is clear:

  • The scale hasn’t budged.
  • Muscle mass is flat.
  • Motivation’s dipping.

She’s doing everything “right,” and yet… nothing’s moving.

Until she makes one change.

She adds STRENGTH training.

And within a few weeks, everything starts shifting again.
The scale moves (in the right direction).
Her shape changes.
She feels stronger, leaner, and more confident.

It’s like her body was just waiting for a new challenge.

Why That Happens

High-intensity workouts (like our 27-minute HIIT sessions) are incredible for conditioning, calorie burn, and that post-workout endorphin rush. They build stamina and mental toughness.

But your body is smart. Over time, it adapts.

It learns how to do the same work more efficiently, which means it burns fewer calories and experiences less stimulus for change.

So when you try to “fix” that plateau by adding more workouts or longer cardio sessions, you’re actually doing the opposite of what your body needs.

You’re not recovering enough to push hard, and intensity-based training only works when you can truly bring intensity.

The Fix: Strength Training

The way out isn’t “more.”
It’s “different.”

Lifting heavier weights. Building muscle.
Teaching your body to burn more even while you rest.

That’s why we built our STRENGTH Personal Training program. To help women in Rocklin finally break past that plateau and see visible change again.

Here’s the formula that works best for most women:
2–3 focused strength sessions each week
2–3 high-intensity workouts for cardio and conditioning

Train both systems.
Build muscle. Keep the heart strong.

That’s the sweet spot where results come back and stay.

If you’ve been putting in the work and not seeing progress, it’s not your willpower. It’s your plan.

You don’t need to do more.
You need to do smarter.

And if you’re local to Rocklin, Lincoln, or Roseville, our coaches at Shred 27 can help you find that balance so you don’t just work out more… you change more.
