There’s something deeply personal about food.
You know the feeling. One bite of warm chicken noodle soup, a slice of your mom’s banana bread, or even a simple grilled cheese… and suddenly, you’re back in a memory. Grandma’s kitchen. A holiday with family. That late-night college study session.
Food isn’t just fuel. It’s emotion. It’s memory. It’s comfort.
But that comfort can turn into conflict.
For so many women food isn’t just about hunger anymore. It’s tangled up in rules, guilt, and stories we’ve carried for decades. From a young age, we’ve been taught to label food…and ourselves.
Broccoli? Good.
Pizza? Bad.
But here’s the problem: when you eat “bad,” you start feeling bad. And if you’ve done that enough times, you might start believing the story that you are bad.
That’s the shame cycle.
And it’s sneaky.
You feel bad. You eat for comfort.
You feel worse because you ate.
And round and round it goes.
The fitness world hasn’t exactly helped.
“Eat clean.”
“Fuel the machine.”
“Just be disciplined.”
But you’re not a machine. You’re a human.
A human with a history. A human with stress, celebrations, and rough Tuesdays.
And if you’re like many women we coach at Shred 27 in Rocklin, you’ve probably told yourself: I just need more willpower.
You think, if I could just stick to my macros… If I could just avoid sugar… If I could just get back on track…
But maybe the problem isn’t discipline.
Maybe it’s the story you’re telling yourself.
The Shift That Changes Everything
What if your food choices weren’t about being good or bad?
What if they were about being honest?
Honest about your hunger.
Honest about your emotions.
Honest about your patterns.
That’s what we work on with our members at Shred 27. Because you don’t need another diet. You need a new perspective.
Here’s What Actually Works
Make food choices from care, not punishment.
Ask yourself: Am I being kind to myself with this meal, or am I trying to “make up” for something?
Start noticing your inner narrative.
Are you eating because you’re hungry, or because you’re tired, bored, lonely, or stressed?
Pause before meals.
Ask: Is this choice caring for me or punishing me?
Then eat. No judgment. No fixing. Just awareness.
