Why Quick Fixes Don’t Work in Fitness (and What Actually Does)

quick fixes

Last week I started watching the new Netflix series about The Biggest Loser.

My goodness I forgot how absolutely obsessed I was with that show back in the day. I’m talking full-on, glued-to-the-TV, “don’t bother me, it’s Jillian time” obsessed.

There was just something about Jillian Michaels and Bob barking orders while contestants pushed through insane workouts. Week after week, people were dropping double-digit pounds like it was nothing. One winner even lost over 200 pounds during the show.

Was it healthy? Nope.
Was it wild to watch? Absolutely.

But here’s the gut punch: in the series follow-up, nearly every contestant gained the weight back (and then some). Out of all those transformations, only one person kept it off.

Why Shortcuts Fail (and Keep Us Stuck)

That moment reminded me of something I see all the time in the fitness world.

It’s no different than the stories you hear about lottery winners who end up broke. Or millionaires who lose everything, but then earn it back again. It’s not about the money. And when it comes to fitness, it’s not even about the weight.

It’s about the habits and mindset behind it.

That’s exactly why I’ve never been a fan of running those infamous “free 6-week challenges” at Shred 27. Sure, they sound exciting. People sometimes see big short-term results. But here’s the problem: too often, they check the challenge box and then disappear right back to old routines.

One Biggest Loser contestant admitted he’d lost over a thousand pounds in his lifetime. That’s not victory. That’s a hamster wheel.

And if you’ve ever felt like you’ve “started over” a hundred times with dieting or working out, you know exactly how that feels.

Quick Wins Feel Great. Long-Term Wins Change Your Life.

Look, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a quick win. Dropping a few pounds or seeing the scale move can feel motivating in the moment. But if that’s all you’re chasing, it doesn’t last.

The real transformation comes from showing up consistently even when life gets messy, busy, or stressful.

That’s why my favorite moments at Shred 27 aren’t the before-and-after pictures. They’re when our members hit the milestone boards: 100, 300, 500, 900, even 1,000 sessions.

Because those numbers mean something bigger.

They mean someone decided their health mattered.
They showed up for themselves again and again.
They made fitness part of their lifestyle (not a 6-week experiment).

And that’s what leads to freedom from yo-yo dieting and chasing shortcuts.

Your Next Step

So here’s the question worth asking yourself:

Am I chasing the quick hit? Or am I building something that lasts?

If you’re ready to finally stop starting over, the answer is simple: consistency beats intensity every time.

And if you’re a woman in Rocklin, CA looking for a gym that’s focused on long-term results, supportive coaching, and building sustainable habits, that’s exactly what we do at Shred 27.

We’ve got your back with small group personal training, fun HIIT workouts that fit into real life, and a community of women who are showing up and proving that strong is sustainable.

Because quick wins might make for good TV. But lasting wins? Those are the ones that change your life.
