Fill out the form to get started

I was 18, 95 pounds soaking wet, and couldn’t lift the bar without help. That’s where it all started.
Too embarrassed to set foot in the campus gym, my buddy and I scraped together $99 and bought a Weider bench set from Walmart. We lifted in his basement. We were clumsy. We were inconsistent. But we showed up.
And something started to shift.
Bit by bit, I got stronger. Not just physically, but mentally too. Strength training does that. It builds more than muscle. It builds belief.
Eventually, I worked up the nerve to join a real gym. Not the athlete-packed campus facility, but a tiny little spot attached to a physical therapy office. The equipment was minimal, but it had something I wasn’t expecting: community.
That’s where I met Gene and Carol. My very first gym crew.
Gene was in his 50s and powered through the elliptical like he was training for Boston. Carol, in her 70s, always said she was “training to keep death out of my yard.” Every Friday, the three of us (an 18-year-old kid, a middle-aged man, and a firecracker grandma) grabbed breakfast after workouts.
That was over 20 years ago, and I still smile thinking about it.
Fitness That Feels Like Family
Since then, I’ve trained in high-end gyms, CrossFit boxes, commercial chains…you name it. But nothing ever felt quite like that first crew. The support. The laughter. The weird mix of people who had no business knowing each other, but were better for it.
At Shred 27 in Rocklin, CA, that’s the kind of atmosphere we aim to create (especially for women who’ve spent years putting themselves last).
Our clients don’t show up because they “love burpees” (does anyone?). They show up because someone is expecting them. Because it feels good to be seen, supported, and not judged.
If You’re New or Nervous, Start Here
Maybe you’re in your 40s or 50s and haven’t stepped into a gym in years. Maybe you’ve tried classes that felt cliquey or intimidating. I get it.
Here’s the truth: You don’t need to be fit to get started. You need to get started to get fit. And you don’t have to do it alone.
Here are 3 things you can do today to get unstuck and moving:
-
Phone a friend. Text someone and invite them for a workout or walk. Everything feels easier with a buddy.
-
Say one brave “hi.” Next time you’re in a fitness space (Shred 27 or anywhere else) just say hello to one person. That’s how crews, and confidence, start.
-
Pick one habit this week. Hydrate more. Sleep better. Walk daily. Strength comes from simple stuff repeated consistently.
The Real Win Isn’t Just a Slimmer Body
Our next Shred Summer Slim down Challenge kicks off in June. It’s designed for real people who want results, support, and a group that feels like home. And yes, there’s a $250 cash prize, but the real win? The confidence and community you’ll gain along the way.
If you’re in Rocklin or nearby, and you’re looking for women’s training that actually cares about you, not just your measurements, come see us.
Because health isn’t just about your body. It’s about your life. And life is better when you’re in it with good people.
